Slippery conditions ahead as Environment Canada issues Yellow Warning for Freezing Rain
Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for Greater Napanee and the surrounding area as freezing rain is expected to impact the region today.
According to the weather agency, several hours of freezing rain are forecast, with ice accretion ranging from 1 to 5 millimetres possible. The event is expected to begin near midday and taper off early this evening.
Officials say precipitation may start early this morning as patchy freezing drizzle before transitioning into freezing rain. At times, the freezing rain could be mixed with snow or ice pellets. As a low-pressure system moves through southern Ontario, conditions are expected to gradually change over to rain or snow.
Areas closer to the Lake Ontario shoreline may experience little to no ice buildup due to slightly warmer temperatures. However, untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots could become slippery, posing a risk to motorists and pedestrians.
Residents are advised to exercise caution, allow extra travel time, and stay updated on weather conditions throughout the day.
